Nutritional guidance

Overview:

We might not be what we eat, but we can only be as good as what we eat. Training nutrition and race and expedition fuelling to complement online coaching or as a stand alone consultation.

I am a big believer that your diet should be an integrated aspect of your training plan and follow the same phases and cycles accordingly. Just like your physical training you can also periodise what you eat to make sure you get the most out of your training and ultimately race as well as possible. This is a service I can offer to my coached athletes that will be built into the training plan, however, I can also sit down with you to look at your current nutrition strategy and make suggestions on how to change or optimise this.

Any event over approximately 1.5 hours will require a well planned fuelling strategy. If we don't provide our body with enough fuel we will soon suffer from hypoglycaemia (low blood glucose) and subsequently our performance will deteriorate.

Lipids, stored as adipose tissue (fat) are one of our body's most efficient energy stores. Your ability to catabolise and utilise this energy isn't a fixed variable but is actually something that can be trained at certain intensities.

Ketosis and the use of exogenous ketones has been a hot topic in recent years and is another area I have first-hand experience in; I can therefore advise on the pros and cons and how ketosis or exogenous ketones can be built into a programme or race.
