Online coaching


All plans will be completely tailored to each individual's needs and goals. I do not subscribe to a generalised one size fits all approach - everyone is different so everyone requires a unique programme to reach their full potential. Training will focus on your sport (running or cycling) complimented with S&C (gym and core strength) and cross training, where appropriate, to make you a more well rounded and robust athlete.

The process:


Contact me for an initial discussion regarding your requirements. We will talk though:

  • An overview of how you have been training

  • What you would like to achieve in the short and long term

  • What you think your current athletic level is

There is no obligation to enter into a coaching agreement after the initial consultation.


If you would like to proceed then I will outline a plan of how the coaching agreement will work based around what was discussed in the initial consultation. I will let you know the cost per month of delivering what you require. The cost per month will depend on the amount of input, analysis, tweaking, feedback and contact time you would like - this can be completely tailored to your wishes.


Set up a TrainingPeaks account if you do not already have one. This is the platform I use for planning and analysing the training and racing for all my athletes and the platform I have used myself for the past 10 years. I train all my athletes using heart rate for running, and heart rate and/or power for cycling, therefore, a heart rate monitor will be required. I can recommend a suitable model if you do not already own one.


I will put together a periodised training plan that will outline each training phase for the next 6 to 12 months. Periodised training is widely accepted as the most efficient training method for increasing 'fitness' and delivering peak performance when required (major race, event or adventure).


Training plans will comprise daily planned sessions delivered in either one-week or two-week blocks, depending on the athlete's preference.  I will set a session within the first two weeks of the training plan commencing that will act as a performance test; from this I will analyse the data and calculate the heart rate (and power for cycling) training zones that I recommend you train in for different sessions. I will soon be able to offer in-house lactate threshold testing to more accurately determine your current level of aerobic capacity and training zones.
